DescriptionThe Memphis Belle (Paramount, 1944). Folded, Fine+. One Sheet (27" X 41"). From the collection of Leonard and Alice Maltin.
Bold Technicolor punctuates this tense, exciting, 41 minute film that has long been considered as a "model" wartime documentary. Directed and partially filmed by William Wyler, The Memphis Belle assembles footage from several allied bombing missions into one single representative flight of the famed Flying Fortress. As heart-thumping as the film, this scarce and gorgeous one sheet is always popular with history collectors. It displays such indications of handling as mild edge and fold wear, slight fold separations, light creases, and pinholes. There are a couple of chips and tears in the borders, in addition to a significant tear extending from the left border through the left side of the title into the wing of the plane. Very minor touchup has been applied to the tear as well. The verso has several pieces of archival tape bracing the tear and a few pieces of paper tape. Folded, Fine+.
Estimate: $2,500 - $5,000.
