    Description

The Master Mystery (Octagon, 1919). Folded, Very Fine+. One Sheet (27.5" X 41") Chapter 10 -- "The Binding Ring."
Harry Houdini was a Hungarian-born American illusionist and stunt performer, noted for his sensational escape acts. This particular chapter one sheet from this famous Houdini serial, the magician's first film, is a first time offering from Heritage. The magician plays Quentin Locke, an agent of the American Justice Department, tasked with investigating a criminal cartel that threatens the nation with a deadly gas, "The Madagascar Madness." Complicating things is the cartel's robot servant, called "The Automaton," which has the distinction of being the first robot ever seen on film. The robot is featured on this fantastic poster, along with great closeups of Houdini and co-star Marguerite Marsh. Though this was Houdini's first motion picture, a 15-chapter serial, he would make four other films before his death in 1926 at the age of 52. Signs of handling in this one sheet include light edge wear, slight fold wear and separation, minor tears, and a few dust shadows. This very rare and beautiful stone litho image would be a cornerstone to any film poster collection.
