Description

The Man from Utah (Monogram, 1934). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").
John Wayne is joined by old friends George "Gabby" Hayes, Ed Peil Sr., and Yakima Canutt, in this excellent early Western. After heroically preventing a bank robbery, young drifter John Weston (Wayne) is asked by Marshal Higgins (Hayes) to look into a number of suspicious deaths of champion rodeo riders. Along the way, Weston falls in love with the charming Marjorie Carter (Polly Ann Young), who gets jealous when his attentions turn to the hot-blooded Dolores (Anita Campillo). What Marjorie doesn't know is that the Mexican beauty is in cahoots with Spike Barton (Peil), the mastermind behind the murders. This rare full set of lobby card is comprised of two different printings from the original release, four of which have the Monogram logo at the bottom left, and three of which have the Monogram logo at the bottom right. The title card has had minimal touchup and tape on the verso to address chips and pinholes in the borders. The scene cards have been hand tinted, and two of the cards have had "Utah" blacked out in the title box. Scene cards may show small chips, smudging, creasing, a tear in the right border, pinholes, and tape on the verso. Included is a charming portrait card and images of Wayne, Canutt and Hayes in action. Fine-.
