The Man from Planet X (United Artists, 1951). Door Panel # 1 (20" X 60"). From the collection of Wade Williams.
At the very beginning of the science fiction genre of the 1950s, there were a number of films that had substantial plot lines and deeper meanings embedded in their narratives. The Man From Planet X fell into this category. Created as a low budget thriller in England, the story centered on an alien spaceship that crash lands in the Scottish moors. But instead of the usual mayhem and world conquering aliens that Hollywood insisted upon, this independent film from director Edgar G. Ulmer had a thoughtful alien-- using mind control on the local inhabitants to keep them from harming him while he exacts repairs on his space ship. The posters for this title are fairly scarce as it was a foreign import released by United Artists. In fact, it's extremely unusual that UA would go to the extra expense of creating a set of door panels as this type of promotional material was usually reserved for the biggest releases. The poster has been mounted to a piece of gatorboard. It had several cracks and tears prior to mounting. There are also several places where the poster is wrinkled on the mount. There are two small holes by the word "from" in the title and another in the lower right corner. The lower edge shows a bit of wear from bumps and some minor staining. From the collection of Wade Williams. Fine- on board.
