Description

The Maltese Falcon (Warner Brothers, 1941). Window Card (14" X 22"). Perhaps the best detective film ever made and certainly one of the best film noirs ever made, this riveting adaptation of Dashiell Hammett's novel by John Huston found Humphrey Bogart in the role of Sam Spade, Private Detective. It was the film that pulled Bogart out of B-Picture gangster obscurity and propelled the actor into becoming the highest paid star in the world. Rounding out the cast were Peter Lorre, Mary Astor, and first timer Sydney Greenstreet. Posters on this title are highly desirable; however, this window card goes beyond the normal appeal. Other than this extremely rare window card and the six sheet, every poster designed by Warners featured Bogart as Mad Dog Roy Earle from "High Sierra." Due to the popularity of that film, the studio felt that this was how the populace wanted to see Bogart, and so that's what the studio gave them. For true fans of this film, this is THE poster to have. Bogart appears as he should, as Sam Spade out to avenge the murder of his partner. This stunning example had some very minor staining in the top blank area as well as in the lower left white area, and a small bit along the sides. There is a minor crack running the length of the window card on the extreme left edge, and at one time there was a playdate in the top area. The card has been professionally cleaned and now appears very fine/ near mint with some light airbrush work in the blank area. Get this one while you can because it truly is as elusive as the Black Bird itself! Very Fine-.
