    Description

The Maltese Falcon (Warner Brothers, 1941). Title Lobby Card (11" X 14").
This was the third film version of Dashiell Hammett's detective novel, and is without a doubt, the best. This classic film noir was directed by John Huston, a long-established screenwriter who was making his directorial debut. Humphrey Bogart would achieve true stardom portraying Sam Spade, a hard-boiled San Francisco private eye, who at times uses unscrupulous methods as a means to an end, but also adheres to his own personal code of honor. With an outstanding ensemble cast of Sydney Greenstreet (in his debut role), Mary Astor, and Peter Lorre, this film literally wrote the text book for the film noir genre! This wonderful title card has professional restoration to a scratch and a minor tear in the upper right corner, and to a crease in John Huston's credit. There was a clean razor cut (with no paper loss) vertically through the entire card. It runs next to Astor's shoulder and through the left side of Bogart's face. The card now has a clean appearance after some airbrushing in the borders and edge of the interior. Very Good on Paper.
