    Description

The Maltese Falcon (Warner Brothers, 1941). Folded, Very Fine. Insert (14" X 36").
Perhaps the best detective film ever made, and certainly one of the best film noirs ever made, John Huston's riveting adaptation of Dashiell Hammett's novel found Humphrey Bogart in the role of Sam Spade, private detective. Audiences loved his hardboiled hero, and the film's success pulled Bogart out of B-picture gangster obscurity and propelled the actor into becoming the highest paid star in the world. Peter Lorre, Mary Astor, and first timer Sydney Greenstreet rounded out the cast of shady characters. Warner Brothers didn't have high hopes for this picture, so they felt the posters should depict Bogart as he appeared in the successful High Sierra. There is a light corner bend and smudging in the bottom right corner, light crimping in the right border, and a minor crease in Mary Astor's image. There are small tears in the borders, some of which have archival tape on the verso. Folded, Very Fine.

    Estimate: $7,500 - $15,000.
