    Description

The Maltese Falcon (Warner Bros., 1941). Fine+ on Paper. Half Sheet (22" X 28") Style B.
Few tough guys were as tough as Humphrey Bogart, and few of his onscreen personas could compare with the cool-as-a-cucumber Sam Spade, the creation of hard-boiled novelist Dashiell Hammett. In this film, Spade finds himself caught in the middle of a struggle for a priceless statuette of a bird, the Maltese Falcon of the title. Supported by such outstanding character actors as Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, Elisha Cook Jr., and Sydney Greenstreet, in his film debut, which garnered him a Best Supporting Actor nomination - as well as first-time director John Huston, Bogart gives the performance of a lifetime. A classic against which nearly all other film noir pictures are measured, this is not only one of Bogie's best, it's arguably one of the best movies ever made. There are pinholes in the corners and background, and small tears in the borders. There is a vertical tear from the upper border into the lower background on the right side running through Bogart's pistol, and a horizontal one from the left border into the "g" in Bogart. There is a "v" shaped piece missing from the top border extending just into the green background. Professional restoration has addressed these issues, with the borders and a small part of the background airbrushed.
