DescriptionThe Maltese Falcon (Warner Bros., 1941). Fine- on Linen. Three Sheet (41" X 81").
This was the third film version of Dashiell Hammett's detective novel, and without a doubt, the best. This classic film noir was directed by John Huston, a long-established screenwriter who was making his directorial debut. Humphrey Bogart would achieve true stardom portraying Sam Spade, a hard-boiled San Francisco private eye, who at times uses unscrupulous methods as a means to an end, but also adheres to his own personal code of honor. Supported by such outstanding character actors as Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, Elisha Cook Jr., and Sydney Greenstreet in his film debut (which garnered him a Best Supporting Actor nomination), as well as first-time director John Huston, Bogart gives the performance of a lifetime. A great poster to match one of the best film noirs ever made, this very rare and moody three sheet has undergone professional conservation to address fold wear and separations, creases, chips in the borders and folds, and tearing in the interior. The poster had some paper loss in the side borders and its upper and lower borders were once trimmed, all of which have been replaced during restoration. The title has been airbrushed, resulting in a vibrant presentation any collector would be proud to own.
Estimate: $10,000 - $20,000.
