DescriptionThe Lost Squadron (RKO, 1932). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Based on the real-life experiences of such famed stunt fliers as Ormer Locklear and Dick Grace (who scripted this picture and also appears in the film), this is the story of a trio of former flying aces (Richard Dix, Robert Armstrong, and Joel McCrea) who return from World War I looking for work. Unable to find anything else, they become stunt fliers employed by megalomaniacal director Von Furst (Erich von Stroheim) who has no qualms about sending men to their deaths in pursuit of cinematic "realism." Heritage has not had the pleasure to offer this magnificent one sheet in over a decade, making this only its second appearance on the auction block. Professional restoration to this stone litho gem has addressed fold wear, small chips in the borders and folds, and two mirrored vertical tears in the title with chips at the ends. There was paper loss along Mary Astor's hand, face, and shoulder that has been skillfully recreated, and the poster's borders have been airbrushed. Fine- on Linen.
Estimate: $3,000 - $6,000.
