The Little American (Artcraft, 1917). One Sheet (27" X 41").
A Heritage first, we are thrilled to present the seldom seen one sheet from the Mary Pickford film The Little American. Bestowed the title of "America's Sweetheart," silent film superstar Pickford was cast as a young woman torn between two World War I soldiers, one German (Jack Holt) and one French (Raymond Hatton). The ship carrying Pickford from the U.S. back to her ancestral home in France is torpedoed by the Germans, and she ends up held in a chateau as a prisoner of war where she again encounters Hatton and Holt. This artistry was the work of director Cecil B. DeMille, and Pickford's own company produced the film. Other notable appearances are made by Wallace Beery and Ramon Novarro, both in the very early stages of their careers. Exceedingly rare, this stone litho one sheet features Pickford, waving from behind the wheel of an automobile. Printed nearly one hundred years ago and in impressive condition, it is a highly significant find. Professionally restored on linen, the poster has some color enhancement. There is a scratch in the upper vertical fold that can still be faintly detected. There is a slight trim to the borders, and the linen has been trimmed to the edge of the poster. Fine- on Linen.
