    Description

The Letter (Warner Brothers, 1940). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").
Bette Davis gave many memorable performances, but few were more moving than her turn as "Leslie Crosby" in this gritty and atmospheric film noir. The title card is one of the best pieces from the film, making the entire set highly desirable. The card shows Davis standing on the steps of the plantation house with just a hint of darkened foliage to her left, in an almost eerie moonlight, the gun's smoke snakes up the wall behind her. She's just murdered her boyfriend, but is not hysterical; she's almost calmly resolute as she glances sideways with a look that surely acknowledges her approaching fate. The lobby card set, with its lovely original Warner Brothers linen finish is in very nice condition. All cards have pinholes in the corners and one in the center top border, as well as light toning along the left edge. The title card has a small lift in the top border, and one card has a bottom border stain. The original mailing envelope is included. Fine/Very Fine.
