DescriptionThe Killing of a Chinese Bookie (Faces, 1976). Very Fine on Linen. Special Full-Bleed Poster (18.25" X 37.5"). Montage Style.
Ben Gazzara stars as Cosmo Vitelli, a strip club owner with a bad gambling habit. When he gets in over his head, a small time gangster (Seymour Cassel) tells him to pay up or kill a Chinese bookie to wipe out his debt. This John Cassavetes film is a cult favorite, and offered here is the rare "Montage" style poster for the film. This is from a group that Cassavetes had photographer Sam Shaw prepare which never made it into mass production or distribution. From the estate of Ruth Jane Gribin (1945- 2019), who was the founder of Los Angeles' first international and independent film festival, Filmex, which championed the work of innovative outsiders like John Cassavetes, who traditionally had great difficulty releasing their films within the traditional Hollywood system. Upon the conclusion of its groundbreaking and highly popular 12 year run, Gribin and other co-founders devoted their energies to establish the American Cinemateque in Los Angeles, which flourishes to this day. There is slight fold wear and separation, pinholes, and small surface scuffs. There are a few faint and minute unaddressed stains.
Estimate: $800 - $1,600.
