    The Jolson Story (Columbia, 1950). Italian 2 - Foglio (39" X 54.5").
The biopic of entertainer Al Jolson of The Jazz Singer (1927) fame begins in turn-of-the-century Washington, D.C. Asa Yoelson (Scotty Beckett), the son of a Jewish immigrant, neglects his religious studies to join a vaudeville act as a singer. He develops an interest in African-American jazz music, and joins a blackface minstrel troupe as "Al Jolson." Success follows, including a Broadway career and then nightclub gigs. His popularity and ego swelled, at the cost of his personal relationships, including the breakup of his third marriage to singer Ruby Keeler, played by Evelyn Keyes. Well into his sixties, Jolson wanted to star as himself in this film, but after an unflattering screen test, the role went to Larry Parks. Jolson coached Parks on the role, alternately treating the younger actor with kindness and distaste. The film won Best Oscars for sound and score, and was a box-office hit. A Heritage first, this Italian poster features artwork by Anselmo Ballester (The Lady from Shanghai, The Big Heat, Spellbound) with a charming portrait of Parks and Keyes, along with the name "Al Jolson" glowing on multiple marquees as a nod to the performer's extraordinary popularity. Touchup has been applied to fold/crossfold wear and pinholes in the borders. Very Fine on Linen.
