The Invisible Man (Universal, 1933). Window Card (14" X 22").
After monumental success with horror giants The Phantom of the Opera (1925), Frankenstein (1931), and Dracula (1931), Universal turned to another classic tale-- H.G. Wells' The Invisible Man, which was turned into another hit by master director James Whale. It launched Claude Rains' career, and co-stars Gloria Stuart, with appearances by Dwight Frye, Walter Brennan, and John Carradine. Rains is superb as the doctor whose ability to become invisible has the terrifying side effect of slowly turning him mad. This seminal film would spawn several sequels and imitations, but paper from the original is always highly sought. This window card format from one of the best Universal horror classics is a top find for collectors. Prior to professional restoration, the card showed a tear in the left border and background, tears from the bottom border slightly into the interior, and some slight surface paper loss below the title. There is touchup at the top of Claude Rains' head and in the title text. The borders have been airbrushed, and the imprint area and top edge of the image area have been restored. The card is beginning to separate from the cardstock it is mounted to and there are some post-restoration creases. Fine+ on Cardstock.
