    Description

The Hound of the Baskervilles (20th Century Fox, 1939). One Sheet (27" X 41").
So rare that Heritage has never sold it before, we are absolutely thrilled to present this amazing stone litho one sheet for the definitive cinematic adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous novel. Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce's talented portrayals of the Great Detective and the ever-loyal Doctor Watson gripped theatergoers across the globe, making the inaugural chapter of the Sherlock Holmes series so overwhelmingly popular that 20th Century Fox pushed out an unplanned sequel, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, less than six months later. This film made Rathbone and Bruce the archetypal depictions of Doyle's beloved characters, now the iconic faces of Holmes and Watson embedded in the public's mind over eighty years later. A poster befitting such a dark and twisting story, Rathbone's shadowy silhouette dominates the background, perfectly tying together the image's ghastly hues and sharp highlights for a truly eerie effect. Already an excellent find, professional restoration has touched up the folds, pinholes in the borders and background, a diagonal fold in the bottom left corner, and a vertical misfold. The upper border had a small hole, a minor tear in the upper left corner, and a tear from the edge into the top of Rathbone's image. The touched up pinholes are still slightly visible. Considered the most faithful transition of any Holmes story from page to screen, every die-hard fan of detective novels and movies alike should jump at this incredibly rare chance to own this magnificent treasure of the mystery genre.
