DescriptionThe Heart of the Sheriff (Selig, 1915). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (28" X 41").
Western film star, Tom Mix, began making short films for the Selig company in 1910. Due to his popularity, he was soon given his own unit which allowed him to write, direct and star in his own films. Posters from these early efforts are exceedingly rare and this is one of two in this auction with Heritage, The Heart of the Sheriff, both the first time offered. No prints of the film are known to exist. In this early film, Mix plays a sheriff forced to kill his daughter's sweetheart, as pictured on this poster. The piece had fold wear with small chips and tears, pinholes in the borders and interior, and a chip in Mix's arm. The restoration is fabulous, giving this stone litho poster a near perfect appearance.
Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
