    Description

The Grapes of Wrath (20th Century Fox, 1947). Fine+ on Linen. First Post-War Release French Grande (46.25" X 62") Bernard Lancy Artwork. From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
Heritage is pleased to offer this first Post-War release French grande for the first time. Nobel prize-winning author John Steinbeck's powerful novel about the devastating effects of the Depression and the nightmare of the dust bowl on a generation of Americans was brilliantly brought to the big screen by director John Ford. Nominated for seven Oscars, Ford would win for Best Director, but it would be Best Actress in a Supporting Role winner Jane Darwell whose closing speech of the film brought audiences to their feet cheering: "Can't wipe us out. Can't lick us. We'll go on forever, 'Cause we're the people." Restoration has addressed slight fold wear and separation, pinholes, and small chips, in addition to a chip in Henry Fonda and Charley Grapewin's credits. Still visible are some stains and smudges, faint fold toning, as well as a few tears, including a tear from the right border into the first "e" of "Colere."

    Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
