    Description

The Ghoul (Gaumont, 1933). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. British Three Sheet (39.5" X 87") Style A, Marc Stone Artwork.
An incredible and very rare poster from the heyday of Boris Karloff's career, Heritage is proud to offer this chilling country-of-origin British three sheet for only the second time. Long thought to be a lost film, this lesser-known Karloff horror flick gained a rapid resurgence in popularity during the 1960s when a battered and edited version of the film surfaced in Czechoslovakia, much to the excitement of European fans of cult classics; a phenomenon that would occur again in the 1980s at the discovery of a near-pristine copy in a long-disused vault at Shepperton Studios. Drawing inspiration from his previous film The Mummy, Karloff's newest villainous incarnation continues the popular theme of mysticism linked with Egyptology, a lasting craze kicked off by the real-life discovery of King Tutankhamen's tomb a decade earlier. Artist and former head of the poster department at Gaumont studios, Marc Stone, brilliantly capitalizes on this aesthetic with a dash of art deco in this eerie illustration, one of two wonderfully sinister styles created for the film. Professional restoration has corrected mild fold wear, pinholes, small chips in the borders and folds, as well as some tears and creases. The borders, background, and some of the title have been airbrushed. Collectors will not want to miss their opportunity to own such a rare and striking piece.
