Description

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Metro, 1921). Half Sheet (22" X 28").
This film is one of the most successful silent films ever made, making more money the year of its release than Charlie Chaplin's The Kid, and becoming the sixth highest grossing silent film ever made. The half sheet poster is a wonderful time capsule of a defining moment both in film history and popular culture. Rudolph Valentino wanted to dance with beauty Beatrice Dominguez (that's her in the fringe dress on the left) and was brushed off by her partner. This dramatic scene shows Valentino subduing the man and tossing him aside just before one of the best dance sequences in film lore. This scene launched two major fads in America...tango dancing, and gaucho pants, but as seen here, few wore them better than Valentino. The poster has been paperbacked, with touchup to small chips and tears in the borders, and one tear in the bottom border extending into the title. Fine+ on Paper.
