Description

The Fall of Babylon (David W. Griffith Corp., 1919). Lobby Cards (2) (11" X 14").
When D. W. Griffith used the "Babylon" story section of his 1916 epic, Intolerance, and recut it to run as a single feature film, he was so inspired by Constance Talmadge's performance as "the Mountain Girl," that he completely refilmed her death scene. In the new version, she lives happily ever after! These cards are from that release and we have never seen cards from this film before! Don't be fooled by someone's small ink notes in the bottom as to the actor's names. That's Constance Talmadge on the marriage auction block being saved by one of the most unsung actors in the silent era, Alfred Paget, who started with D. W. Griffith in 1908, appearing as everything from "Indian" to "Butler" in over 240 films directed by Griffith and others. There are pinholes in the borders, ink writing at the bottom, and light stains, and smudges and foxing. One card has a small chip in the lower right corner, and border tears. The other card has only a small top border tear, and clear tape on the verso. Very Good-.
