    Description

The Devil's Brother (MGM, 1933). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style D, Al Hirschfeld Artwork.
Stan Laurel often stated that of all the Laurel and Hardy films, this one was a top favorite. Set in early eighteenth century Northern Italy, the boys aptly enough play "Stanlio" and "Ollio," two 18th century bunglers. Ollio decides to pose as Fra Diavolo, the singing bandit. When they attempt to rob the real Diavolo, he sets the boys straight, quick! The film is noted for Stan's increasingly rapid game of Earsy-Kneesy-Nosey. This wonderful stone litho one sheet, with artwork by the great Al Hirschfeld, is lovely in its simplicity and also features a great image of Nina Quartero as Rita. It has had light touchup to the folds, pinholes, a few tears, and small bits of paper loss in the left background and a tiny bit in Hardy's lower lip. There were small stains in the yellow background as well. Unaddressed issues include edge wear and staining in the borders. We are unaware of any other surviving copies of this incredibly rare poster. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
