Description

The Day the Earth Stood Still (20th Century Fox, 1951). Title Lobby Card (11" X 14").
Collectors will no doubt want to get their hands on this highly sought after title lobby card, as The Day the Earth Stood Still is not only a classic piece of 1950s cinema, but also a high point of the science fiction genre. Based on Harry Bates' short story "Farewell to the Master," and brilliantly directed by Robert Wise, the film finds a spacecraft landing near the White House. The interplanetary traveling occupant, named Klaatu, warns Earthlings of the consequences of their violent ways. When the mild-mannered being is assassinated, the power of Gort, Klaatu's robot bodyguard, is unleashed in the form of a massive death ray. The film's strong anti-military stance still resonates with audiences today, and, according to Wise, the War Department would not cooperate with the filming by providing necessary equipment, as they did not agree with the message of the picture. This title card, featuring absolutely stunning art, has a small tear in the right border, bends in three corners, a light crease in the upper border, and a small nick in the lower edge. Very Fine-
