    Description

The Day the Earth Stood Still (20th Century Fox, 1951). Three Sheet (41" X 79").
One of the biggest and most popular titles in science fiction, this iconic 50's invasion flick possesses a vast fanbase that is always on the lookout for its exceptional posters. With a political metaphor hidden in the trappings of a thrilling alien adventure, The Day the Earth Stood Still had a lasting influence on numerous future entries in the sci-fi genre, as well as a subtle impact in the minds of Cold War era audience members. Not only does the three sheet have an exceptional image of Gort at his most menacing, but it is one of the few advertisements to actually feature the image of leading actress Patricia Neal. The poster has had touchup to the folds and tears throughout the image, including Patricia Neal's head, legs, and arms. There were also chips and paper loss throughout the interior, notably around Gort's hand and in his body, the background, and in the film credits. The borders were also trimmed by 1/2" to 1," but still retained the original copyright information at the bottom. The restoration to all of this is truly extraordinary, giving the poster a magnificent appearance. Very Good on Linen.
