    Description

The Day the Earth Stood Still (20th Century Fox, 1951). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41").
Although this wasn't the first film to start the sci-fi craze of the 1950s, it was arguably the most important. Director Robert Wise gave the genre some legitimacy when he created the first "serious" science fiction epic that asked pertinent questions about how man would react to learning that we are not alone in our universe. Wise perfectly encapsulated the growing anxiety of American citizens as the world advanced into the Atomic Age. The themes of peace and destruction balance against one another throughout the film as the alien emissary Klaatu and his towering bodyguard Gort, eventually offer the audience the hope of a better, safer world. An icon among sci-fi posters, this one sheet has had professional restoration applied to slight fold wear and separations, pinholes, as well as a few surface scratches in the image. Also addressed were some tears and small chips. The borders have been airbrushed.

    Estimate: $6,000 - $12,000.
