    Description

The Day the Earth Stood Still (20th Century Fox, 1951). Autographed One Sheet (27" X 41").
Panic seizes Washington, D.C. when a spacecraft lands near the White House in this sci-if favorite from 1951. Klaatu (Michael Rennie), a soft-spoken interplanetary traveler, has come with a message of peace for Earthlings, along with his "bodyguard" Gort, a robot who emits death rays when danger threatens. Robert Wise (a former editor for Orson Welles) directs this classic that instilled within the genre a political subtext that reflected the anxieties of post-WWII America. The graphics chosen for the one sheet format are some of the best from the 1950s, making it a collector's dream. This particular poster has maintained vibrant color, and boasts an autograph by director Wise. Other than touchup to pinholes in the corners and folds, the piece is well preserved and displays exceedingly well. Very Fine+ on Linen.
