    Description

The Cowardly Lion by Ruth Plumly Thompson (Reilly & Lee Company, 1923). Fine/Very Fine. MGM Cast Signed First Edition Hardcover Book (291 Pages, 7.25" X 9.25") John R. Neill Artwork.
    L. Frank Baum's beloved world of whimsy extended far past his original 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, with the adventures of Dorothy and her friends continuing in numerous other books written by Baum and several others. One such author was Ruth Plumly Thompson, who created this fantastical tale about Baum's Cowardly Lion. Hailing from the novel's first printing and first edition, this book also has been signed by numerous cast members of the famed 1939 film adaptation. Signatures include headlining star Judy Garland, Cowardly Lion Bert Lahr, as well as Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Frank Morgan, Billie Burke, and Margaret Hamilton. The book itself is in good condition for its age, showing such signs of use as slight edge and spine wear, a couple of very minor tears in the pastedowns, and surface scuffs on the covers. There are some small stains on the top edge as well as on the covers. The book's spine shows color fading and slight toning, and there is a small library ink stamp on the front pastedown. With COA of authenticity from Heritage Auctions. Fine/Very Fine.
