    Description

The Chinese Revolution (Oriental Film Company, 1912). Three Sheet (41" X 81").
This is one of those amazing film posters you luckily stumble across that concretely defines a piece of important film history. In 1909 a Russian-Jewish American businessman who had mastered four Chinese dialects arrived in China intent upon becoming a film businessman and an exhibitor. He organized and produced the first dramas designed specifically for the cinema under the direction of native talent. His name was Benjamin Brodsky. This nothing short of amazing original three sheet is for his exploitation film about the 1911 Chinese Revolution. It's simply one of the most truly evocative exploitation posters we've ever seen. The film was a two-reeler, 2000 feet, and shot in Hong Kong. It was advertised by Brodsky for sale or lease in Moving Picture World, 30 Mar 1912, through his Oriental Film Company in San Francisco. There are 300 feet of this film preserved in the Library of Congress collection. The beautiful stone lithograph was printed by one of the best of the pre-1920 lithograph houses, the Donaldson Co. out of Newport, Kentucky. This is most definitely an important poster of museum quality. It has been professionally linenbacked with very minimal restoration needed for only some fold wear with small chips. Very Fine on Linen.
