The Californian (20th Century Fox, 1937). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. Three Sheet (41" X 79.25"). From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
In a tale inspired by the life of the real-life folk hero, Joaquin Murrieta, Ricardo Cortez plays noble thief Ramon Escobar in the newly created state of California. The movie could be seen as a preliminary run for MGM's Zorro film released three years later, The Mark of Zorro starring Tyrone Power. Restoration has been applied to fold wear and separation, some of the tears, and small chips. There are partially addressed pinholes and creases. Still apparent are a few tears and chips, small paper lifts, writing bleedthrough in the upper right, as well as some stains and smudges.

    Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
