The Bride (Perfection Pictures, 1918). Title Lobby Card and Lobby Cards (4) (11" X 14").
The Bride is the product of a collaboration of Thomas A. Edison and James Montgomery Flagg, two of the silent film eras most inventive and creative minds. Flagg (1877-1960) was a talented artist and illustrator, best remembered for his political posters, including the now iconic Uncle Sam recruiting piece for the U.S. military. Flagg also wrote, starred in, and/or directed more than a dozen short films between 1914 and 1920. Included in that canon of work is The Bride which stars Peggy Hopkins, seen in these five lobby cards. Hopkins made her Broadway debut in 1917 in the renowned Ziegfeld Follies, and became famous not only for her acting talents, but also her multiple marriages, worldwide romantic escapades, unbridled shopping sprees, and a collection of fur and jewels that included the famous "Portuguese Diamond." Her exceedingly flamboyant lifestyle as one of pop culture's early "It" girls even earned Hopkins a mention in the lyrics of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin. The title card and three scene cards are very rare, as is all paper from this film. All of the cards have a stain at the top left and pinholes in the corners. Two cards have a dust shadow along the bottom border. One card has a tear in the bottom border. Fine+.
