Description

    The Bride of Frankenstein (Universal, 1935). Uncut Pressbook (12 Pages, 13" X 26") & Ad Mats (3 Pages, 13" X 26").
For collectors of classic horror film posters, this is a heart-stopping find: the complete pressbook from the original 1935 release of The Bride of Frankenstein. James Whale's lasting contribution to the cinema was a sense of humor and style, on full display in this film. It was a major hit for Universal and many critics feel it is the best film to emerge from the horror series of pictures created by the studio. The cover of this extraordinarily rare pressbook glows with eerily viridescent images of Boris Karloff, Valerie Hobson and Elsa Lanchester. The back cover is filled with examples of the now highly elusive large format posters that were available upon release (three one sheet styles, three three sheet styles, a fourteen sheet, and a twenty-four sheet), all in remarkably bright, saturated color. The pressbook consists of twelve pages (including the covers) and six pages of ad mats. Attached to the front inside cover is an example of the rotogravure 9 1/2" X 14" herald. The internal pages cover everything from advance and current publicity articles, showmanship pieces (a flasher easel, a Big-Thrill Chart, Ballyhoos, window displays), exploitation pieces (telephone and doorknob hanger, jingle contest, Monster's speech contest), the full range of lobby displays, and additional posters that include the impressive six sheet format. The pressbook was folded in half horizontally and shows wear and slight separation at the spine. The chance to acquire publicity material such as this is a monumental opportunity, one that Heritage is very proud to extend. Fine/Very Fine.
