DescriptionThe African Queen (United Artists, 1952). Very Fine on Paper. Half Sheets (2) (22" X 28") Styles A & B.
Humphrey Bogart won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in The African Queen opposite co-star Katharine Hepburn. Directed by John Huston, the film tells the story of Charlie Allnut (Bogart) who is convinced by missionary Rose Sayer (Hepburn) to use his river steamboat to attack a German ship during World War I. This pair of posters captures the power, romance, and excitement of the film which was entered into the U.S. National Film Registry in 1994. Prior to backing on heavy paper, the posters had edge wear, pinholes, creases, and mostly small tears. The style A half sheet has a slight tear at the top of the text area in the poster's upper-left corner, and the style B half sheet had a horizontal tear in the right side of the image area. Restoration has addressed most of these issues, and airbrushing in the borders has given both posters a wonderful appearance.
Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
