    Description

The Adventures of Robin Hood (Warner Brothers, 1938). Six Sheet (81" X 81").
Warner Brothers pulled out all the stops when making this grand swashbuckling big screen telling of the story of Robin Hood, creating what has become a timeless classic that still manages to captivate audiences of all ages. A perfect blend of adventure, romance, humor, suspense and drama, the film features an all-star cast that includes Errol Flynn as the dashing outlaw Robin Hood, Olivia de Havilland as the radiant Maid Marian, Basil Rathbone as the aristocratic Sir Guy of Gisbourne, and Claude Rains as the conniving Prince John. Though he was not the studio's first choice for the title role, (James Cagney was originally announced as the lead), Flynn's portrayal of Robin Hood is the greatest, and has yet to be equaled in the numerous film versions of the legendary tale. Several scenes from the picture truly stand out, from Robin's first encounter with Prince John, to the climactic duel between Flynn and Rathbone depicted on this grand and magnificent six sheet. Posters on this film are highly desirable, but none are rarer than this six sheet, it being the only known example to survive as far as we know. Heritage is proud to offer this outstanding and glorious poster, from a film that is nothing less than true cinematic art. There were pinholes in the corners, minor edge tears that slightly extended into the artwork, some small chips along the folds, a small hole in the middle of the title, and four censor stamps. The stamps were located at the left of the title, in the Technicolor banner, at the far left of the image area in Rathbone's knee, and in Flynn's name. Professional restoration has addressed these issues, leaving the poster in absolutely stunning condition. Collectors will not want to miss what could very well be the only opportunity to own this truly magnificent and wondrous treasure. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
