The Adventures of Robin Hood (Warner Brothers, 1938). Australian Three Sheet (40" X 80.5").
Without a doubt this is one of the most spectacular images ever created for Errol Flynn's greatest film, The Adventures of Robin Hood. After the success of Captain Blood, the Australian actor had established himself as the premier swashbuckler of the silver screen and was a natural to follow in the footsteps of Douglas Fairbanks. But Flynn brought his own sense of devil-may-care attitude to the role and made a career in the process. The film also featured Basil Rathbone in his usual role of the dastardly villain, Claude Rains as Prince John -- the would-be King, and Flynn's favorite leading lady, Olivia De Havilland as the beautiful Maid Marian. This Australian three sheet uses one of the best graphics developed for the film as Robin Hood sweeps Maid Marian off her feet. The poster has had restoration to some stains around the horse's feet and to a hole under Flynn's cape. There has also been some touchup to the fold lines in the middle and lower panels. The upper panel has been completely replaced but matches perfectly with the rest of the poster. Fortunately, this was only in the title area and didn't interfere with the graphics of Flynn and De Havilland. The other wonderful thing about this image is the fact it was a stone litho compared to the US posters which were printed in offset lithography. Very Good on Linen.
