Description

The 39 Steps (Gaumont, 1935). Hardbound Studio Executive Presentation Album (53 Pages, 8" X 10").
Considered one of the Alfred Hitchcock's finest works, The 39 Steps delved into one of the director's favorite topics; espionage. The story concerns a Mr. Hannay (Robert Donat) who goes on the run after he is accused of murdering a young woman who is a counter-espionage agent. Along the way he's aided by Madeleine Carroll as he seeks out the real spies to expose them in order to clear his own name. The film was a true thriller and propelled Hitchcock to world-wide prominence as a director. To this day, original paper from this early work by the master of suspense is among the most collectible in the poster hobby, making this lot a thrilling find. A phenomenal, fifty-three page hardbound presentation album that was no doubt assembled for a very special recipient and perhaps a British Gaumont executive. We believe only one other copy of this album exists, in the archives of the BFI. Packed with 210 vintage gelatin silver, double weight, glossy scene photos (3.5" X 4.75") that follow the captivating course of the film in sequence. The album also boasts dazzling portraits of the cast, behind-the-scenes images that even include the young Hitchcock, and a number of set continuity shots. The book is bound by a tasseled cord along the spine, and the photos are mounted on linen paper. The album is in outstanding condition for its age, showing only slight warping to the internal pages from the mounting of photos. "Step" up your collecting game and bid on this presentation album that won't soon be offered again! Fine/Very Fine.
