Description
The Black Pirate (United Artists, 1926). French Double Grande (63" X 90").The road to Hollywood greatness took a fortuitous turn for Douglas Fairbanks in 1920, as he capitalized on the opportunity to transform himself from a charming star of light romantic comedies into a dashing hero. With his starring role in The Mark of Zorro, Fairbanks found that the action-oriented picture suited his athletic nature perfectly, and he soon embarked on additional swashbuckling roles, including such silent epics as The Three Musketeers (1921), Robin Hood (1922), The Thief of Bagdad (1924), and Don Q, Son of Zorro (1925). It was then that Fairbanks set his sights on the high seas, adding "pirate" to his repertoire of dashing rogues, shot in two-strip Technicolor. Fairbanks plays the Duke of Arnoldo, who goes undercover with the pirates who murdered his father, in order to exact revenge. Offered here is an extremely rare stone litho French double grande, which Heritage has only sold once previously. This exceptional poster has been restored, with touchup applied to small tears in the borders and lower image area, minor chips at the cross folds, and pinholes in the borders. Very Fine- on Linen.
