The Adventures of Robin Hood (Warner Brothers, 1938). Educational Panels (5) (19" X 25").
Here's something we bet few collectors have ever seen. This lot contains five out of the set of eight "educational panels" done in almost a half sheet format that were used by the larger theatres as lobby displays as these were the only ones that had room for them. They were listed also in the original pressbook as "library aids", presumably ordered by the theatres and given to local libraries to display in the same manner window cards were given and used by local businesses. They are a fascinating glimpse into how clever major studios were at selling their films in the 1930s. Panel one has a bibliography of books that can be studied about the history of the Robin Hood story and also features terrific photos of Ian Hunter, Claude Rains, and of course, Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland. Other panels have a blend of scenes from the films and reproductions of fine paintings and prints that relate to the Robin Hood legend. One panel shows all the "tie-ins" that the studio put out to advertise the film; coloring books, belts, dresses, hats, games, scarves, illustrated novels, and the obligatory archery sets. Two of the panels are on linen. Most of the panels have small tears in the borders, and one has a small chip in the right border. Overall, they are in amazing condition and are a unique opportunity to own something very rare on one of Hollywood's greatest titles. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
