Description
The Adventures of Robin Hood (Warner Bros., 1938). Fine/Very Fine. Linen Finish Lobby Card (11" X 14") & Trimmed Linen Finish Lobby Card (10" X 13").Warner Bros. was under quite a lot of pressure from the Breen office, who were apoplectic over the studio's popular gangster films. In order to assuage the censors, Warner Bros. gave the green light to this, a dashing historical epic, one that they felt sure would pass muster easily. The result was one of the greatest action epics ever filmed, with a great cast, a terrific story, and the advantage of glorious three-strip Technicolor. Starring Errol Flynn as Robin Hood, Olivia de Havilland as Maid Marion, Basil Rathbone as Sir Guy of Gisbourne, and Claude Rains as the avaricious Prince John, the movie succeeds on every level, and is just as rollicking a ride today as it was 84 years ago. Offered here is what is considered by many to be the best card in this great set, with Errol Flynn in the title role seen protecting Olivia de Havilland. The other card, although trimmed, features the great dueling scene between Flynn and Rathbone. The untrimmed card shows some creasing, small tears on the border, and pinholes. The trimmed card is in excellent condition except for the trim.
