Description

The Adventures of Robin Hood (Warner Bros., 1938). Fine on Linen. Three Sheet (41" X 78.5").
Making only its second appearance at Heritage in twenty years of poster auctions, this is an original studio three sheet for the swashbuckling adventure classic. The lavish Warner Bros. production stars Errol Flynn in his most iconic role as the noble outlaw who defies Prince John's oppression and fights to restore justice in medieval England. Alongside Olivia de Havilland as Maid Marian and Basil Rathbone as the menacing Sir Guy of Gisbourne, Flynn leads a spirited cast through dazzling swordfights, bold escapes, and moments of chivalric romance. Filmed in glorious Technicolor and directed by Michael Curtiz and William Keighley, the film set a new standard for adventure cinema with its dynamic pacing, orchestral score by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, and richly detailed production design. Universally hailed as one of the greatest swashbucklers ever made, it not only defined Flynn's screen persona but also embodied the golden age of Hollywood heroism and spectacle. Backed to linen, paint touchup has addressed chipping, tears, and splits along the folds and fold junctions, chipping and tears in the border and upper area, and water staining throughout, most evident in the lower third. The borders have been painted along with portions of the title and background. Much like Errol Flynn in the title role, this large-format poster cuts a dashing figure and would be an exciting addition to any collection. From the Robert and Carla Schenk Collection.
