    Description

    Superman Cartoon (Paramount, 1941). Color Glos Photos (4) (8" X 10").
Vintage, single weight, color, glossy photos. Just after Superman made his dramatic appearance in Action Comics in 1938 and rose quickly to fame, he became the subject of Hollywood speculation. Republic Pictures wanted to turn the Man of Steel into a serial, but Paramount got the rights first and decided to create a series of cartoons instead. Under the leadership of Max and Dave Fleischer, Paramount turned out 17 cartoons, and those shorts are considered some of the best work to emerge from Paramount's cartoon division. The photos have been restored to address pinholes in the borders, one photo had a long tear from the bottom border slightly into the background, and a vertical stain through Superman's cape, two vertical tears from top and bottom into the background, and one with small stains in the image area. These sensational photos from the film pop with vibrant color and have crossover appeal to movie poster, animation and comic book collectors. From the Theaters of Old Detroit Collection. Fine+.
