Description

    Sunset Boulevard (Paramount, 1950). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").
In the 1940's, director Billy Wilder made the trek almost daily up and down the 22 mile stretch of road that runs through Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Bel-Air, and Brentwood. As he viewed the grand old homes of by-gone stars from Hollywood's Golden Age, he wondered how they spent their days and of the dramas of real life that had replaced their careers. He would create from those thoughts one of the darkest but most fascinating glimpses of the film world ever photographed. This complete set of lobby cards gives tantalizing hints at the noir-like tone of the film and the almost palpable desperation of the characters. Even the title, done in a street sign font, is terrifically framed by the symbolic twisted celluloid. All of the cards have light handling creases on the right side, five cards show pinholes in the borders and/or background, and six have smudging in the borders and yellow background. The # 8 card has a bottom right corner bend, the #4 card has faint writing bleedthrough, and the # 1 and #7 cards have staining in the bottom borders. The there is a top right corner bend and one small tear each with paper tape on the verso in the upper and lower borders of the #3 card. Very Fine-.
