    Sunset Boulevard (Paramount, 1950). Insert (14" X 36").
One of the most searing portrayals of Hollywood superficiality ever created, Billy Wilder's dark satire of the entertainment industry continues to hold a powerful relevance that has deservedly lasted for decades. The artwork of Gloria Swanson absolutely scorches the upper half of the poster, fitting with both the title and her character's progressive descent into complete madness. The lower image portrays the film's macabre opening scene where Joe Gillis' (William Holden) flippant narration of his death perfectly set the story's sardonic tone. Though controversial among much of the Hollywood elite, many critics heaped praise upon Sunset Boulevard, earning Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett the Academy Award for Best Screenplay and nominations for Swanson and Holden in the Best Actress and Best Actor categories. This insert shows beautifully, with very light edge wear, minor foxing and a soft corner bend in the lower left corner, and small tears in the right border that have a strip of cellophane tape on the verso. Folded, Very Fine-.
