    Description

    Sunset Boulevard (Paramount, 1950). Half Sheet (22" X 28") Style A.
Gloria Swanson showed true professionalism when she took on the role of aging actress Norma Desmond in this sensational and dark look at Hollywood. Billy Wilder directed this nightmarish movie that became a classic. Erich von Stroheim and William Holden (as Joe Gillis) co-star, but it was Swanson's show and comeback vehicle. Gillis: "You're Norma Desmond. You used to be in silent pictures. You used to be big." Desmond: "I 'am' big. It's the 'pictures' that got small." The film was nominated for 11 Oscars and took three; Best Art Direction, Score and Screenplay. Swanson is in top diva form as Desmond on this half sheet, letting the world know she's still a force with which to be reckoned! Restoration has addressed a small chip in the right vertical fold, a chip in the bottom border, a chip in the top right corner, and pinholes in the corners. Touchup has been applied to the folds, with airbrushing in three borders and some of the white background. There is a bit of light fading near the bottom. Heritage has presented the style A half sheet only once previously, making this an incredibly rare chance to own a highly significant poster in the hobby. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
