    Description

    Submarine (Columbia, 1928). One Sheet (26" X 40").
Never before sold before by Heritage, this beautiful stone litho one sheet is thought to be the last of its kind remaining from this semi-silent Frank Capra drama. The first attempt at a high budget, A-list film from the small-time studio Columbia Pictures, Capra's rescue adventure revealed the director's ambition and raw talent that would later culminate in such memorable classics like It's a Wonderful Life, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and Arsenic and Old Lace. This picture also holds the distinction of being Capra's first dabble in new sound technology, featuring synchronized sound effects and a recorded orchestral score. Audiences loved the film so much, that Capra and his two male leads, Jack Holt and Ralph Graves, would go on to make two more love triangle rescue dramas in the early talkie era, Flight in 1929 and Dirigible in 1931. Still lovely almost ninety years after its printing, this poster looks great after professional restoration has addressed tears and small chips in the borders and interior of the poster, and touchup has been applied to the folds. Fine+ on Linen.

    Estimate: $4,000 - $8,000.
