DescriptionStrange Cargo (MGM, 1948). First Post-War Release Italian 4 - Fogli (55" X 77.5") Ercole Brini Artwork.
Strange Cargo remains easily one of Clark Gable's most complex and thought-provoking films. Gable stars as a convict who leads a group of escapees from a French penal colony on a perilous trek towards freedom, brining girlfriend Joan Crawford and holy man Ian Hunter along for the ride. This would be Crawford's eighth and final teaming with Gable. A first time offer at Heritage, this beautiful 4 - fogli bears an illustration by the immensely talented Ercole Brini, and it has been restored to correct fold wear and separations, pinholes into the interior, and a small chip to the right of Gable's hand. There was chipping and mild tears in the borders and folds, as well as a horizontal tear under the title that curves through the "S" of "Lukas" to the bottom border. A chip in the lower right corner had partially removed the date in the printer's information and was instead replaced with the date of the American release during restoration. However, the first Italian release of the film occurred eight years later due to World War II, dating this poster to 1948 and not 1940. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
