DescriptionStock Circus Poster (Erie Litho, c. 1920s). Folded, Fine/Very Fine. Performing Elephants Stock 12 Sheet Circus Poster (155" X 106").
Offered here is an extraordinarily beautiful circus poster circa 1920s printed by the Erie Litho Company in Pennsylvania. This firm, founded in 1890, originally printed for small traveling shows. Because they offered primarily stock designs, the cost of Erie's lithographs were often less than some of the larger printing firms. This stock oversized poster was done as a huge display piece to be pasted on walls or fences for traveling circus performances. It features a great stone litho image of performing elephants with two beautiful girls. The upper part of the poster left a space for the show to use their own printed snipe with which to create what appeared to be a beautiful poster for their own venue! This oversize vintage original stock circus poster has fold wear, with some fold splits, pinholes in the borders, edge tears, some of which have museum tape on the verso, and there is some image ghosting.
Estimate: $500 - $1,000.
