    Description

    Stagecoach (Columbus, R-1960). Italian 2 - Fogli (39.5" X 55") Anselmo Ballester Artwork.
Few artists have ever captured an Indian attack in the American Frontier as capably as legendary Italian artist Anselmo Ballester. It was his art for the Italian re-release of the film in 1950 that simply could not be improved upon, so it was reused in the 1960 re-release with the simple addition of an inset picture of John Wayne. Geronimo's hordes are drawn larger than life in blood red, completely encircling the wagon train that has little chance of escape. The wildness in the eyes of the attackers is echoed in the eyes of their raging steeds, and the young brave violently hacking at the wagon train's trapped horses with a tomahawk is an image you won't find in American posters. In brilliant and bold color, the poster has light touchup to the folds. It still shows some light foxing and mild rippling, with some post-restoration creases. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.

    Estimate: $600 - $1,200.
