    Description

Spy Smasher - Chapter 1 "America Beware" (Republic, 1942). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14"). On the heels of the impressively successful Captain Marvel serial, Fawcett Publications (Whiz Comics) and Republic Pictures struck a deal to bring "Spy Smasher" to the big screen. The serial starred Kane Richmond as the Nazi foiling super agent and was released just as the U.S. entered World War II. Five of these original lobby cards are in near mint condition save for light toning and very minor corner dings. The title card has some light silverfish damage on border and Marguerite Chapman's forehead, a bit of paper loss on Spy Smasher's arm and a piece of brown paper tape on bottom left border. The other three cards have light soiling, scuffing and tiny pin holes, one card featuring Richmond as Spy Smasher has silverfish damage along top border and a tiny bit of damage on left border. What makes this set so special is that it is all in full color. Republic only made the chapter one cards in color. The cards for the subsequent chapters were duo-tone. These chapter one cards come with their original brown Republic Pictures delivery bag and are an incredibly hard find. Very Fine-.
