    Description

The Pride of the Yankees (RKO, R-1949). Lobby Card (11" X 14").
This is the cinematic version of the story of legendary Yankee's slugger and first baseman Lou Gehrig who, at the peak of his career, developed amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a neurodegenerative condition now referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease." Although Sam Goldwyn reportedly considered the story "box office poison," the picture went on to become an enormous hit, featuring one of star Gary Cooper's most emotional, and memorable, performances. This poignant card (#6), which pictures Cooper, as Gehrig, with real-life baseball legend Babe Ruth, is an exceptional find for fans of the film and collectors of baseball nostalgia. Only pinholes in the corners keep the card from a higher grade. Very Fine.
