Rocky III by Bob Peak (United Artists, 1982). Original Mixed-Media Concept Poster Artwork (30" X 40").
Illustration icon, Bob Peak, lends his hand to at least four different concept artworks for the third Rocky film in this first offering at Heritage. The third film in the Rocky franchise brings in Mr. T as Clubber Lang, an up and coming bruiser of a boxer with his sights on champion Rocky Balboa. Defeated at the hands of Lang and the death of his longtime manager Mickey, Balboa finds a new mentor in the form of his former rival, Apollo Creed. Peak designed this concept art with a victorious Balboa in the foreground along with Creed behind him, and a lurking Lang above him sparked with blues and yellows. The forms of Rocky and Apollo as well as Clubber Lang have been affixed onto the illustration board and the board itself has been affixed onto foamcore. The illustration board shows pinholes in the upper corners and a horizontal crease in the board just below the image of Clubber Lang, which does not detract from the overall image. A great find for fans of the Rocky franchise, Bob Peak, or both! Very Fine.
